One of the best things we can do for our bodies is manage our weight. Depending on the situation this could mean maintaining our weight, losing weight or gaining weight. There are a few different strategies that we can use to achieve our ideal weights.

The traditional strategy involves tracking our food intake and our exercise output. By making sure we eat less calories than we burn off we can ensure we lose weight. For some people this is a great way to lose weight.

The “new” way of managing weight looks at finding out what our eating habits, exercise habits and coping habits are like. This can help us to incorporate small, achievable and tolerable changes that allow us to redefine our habits. Although the end goal is the same, the way in which we go about getting the pounds off is different. Although several obesity experts recommend this type of an approach (first formalized by Dr. Robert Kushner) it hasn’t reached the same popularity that other weight loss methods have.

One way isn’t better than the other and both can be extremely effective. The trick is to find the way that works best for you.
